United Way of York Country is pleased to announce that a $2,000 sub-grant has been awarded to Partner Agency New Hope Ministries to help low-income families with food assistance programs to lessen the financial burdens of COVID-19. The funds will be directly used to provide fresh produce and food to people and families in need.

This summer, United Way of Pennsylvania announced United Way of York County as a $2,000 grant recipient from the Land O’Lakes Foundation. Land O'Lakes Mid-Atlantic Grants Program works to support valuable projects and charitable endeavors that improve quality of life in local communities. This grant was given with the intent of addressing hunger or food needs in the community.

This sub-grant will help people like Yvette, a woman who lost her full-time job because of the COVID-19 pandemic and was looking for help to make ends meet. Although she found a temporary job to pay her bills, she still needed assistance in feeding her family, and continues to receive food assistance at New Hope Ministries’ Dillsburg Center to help meet her family’s needs.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted every facet of our community, and we know there are many people who are facing lost income and food insecurity,” said Anne Druck, President, United Way of York County. “United Way of York County supports Economic Mobility programs to ensure that even in tough economic times, people are able to meet their basic needs and work toward economic progress.”

Opening its doors in 1983, New Hope Ministries is a social service agency that provides food and basic needs programs, stability and workforce development programs, and youth programs for underserved communities. Last year, 2,505 families received food at New Hope Ministries’ York County locations, where $25 can feed a family of four for one week.

About United Way of York County

For 100 years, United Way of York County has worked in the York County community to improve people’s lives. It began as The York Welfare Federation, an organization that raised funds on behalf of 17 member agencies. Today, as United Way of York County, the mission of raising community funds remains the same, but the strategies have evolved in order to meet the growing and changing needs of people living in York County.

United Way has adapted over the years and now collaborates with other public and private organizations to engage the community in addressing the complex issues facing York County. By developing initiatives that get at the root causes of these issues, United Way and its partners find solutions and fund programs that improve the lives of nearly 60,000 people annually in York County. Through gifts to the Impact Fund, United Way is able to invest those dollars into 64 programs supported by 34 Partner Agencies. These programs address human services needs across three Focus Areas: Education, Health, and Economic Mobility. This enables United Way to tackle the immediate and continuing needs of York County families and individuals and to create real, lasting change that matters to you and our community.
