This event coincides with the 50th anniversary of the Earned Income Tax Credit, one of the federal government's largest anti-poverty programs. For taxpayers in poverty and ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed), claiming the EITC on their tax filing can mean a significant increase to their tax return. VITA plays a crucial role in closing the gap of individuals who qualify for EITC but aren't claiming it.
